Complete Project and Construction Management
JNE provided Jungbunzlauer Canada Inc. and Jungbunzlauer GES M.B.H. with complete project and
construction management services for a $120 million citric acid plant in Port Colborne, Ontario. Together
with Austrian-based engineering groups and several Canadian architectural and engineering firms, JNE
tendered and awarded 65 subcontracts and coordinated the work of 300 tradesmen necessary for the plant’s
construction. The site, located next to the Welland Canal, encompassed 12 construction areas within 220
acres of green fields, and was completed in 24 months.
The main process work included the supply and placement of 133 stainless-steel vessels of various sizes that
were positioned on concrete foundations and pads. The majority of the tanks had to be placed in a specific
sequence consistent with the installation of the galvanized structural steel framework. Some of the larger
vessels, six metres in diameter and 25 metres high, had to be fabricated on-site to expedite delivery and
placement logistics. Following the installation of the tanks, 51,000 feet of stainless-steel piping had to be
fabricated and installed in a particular sequence to facilitate the preliminary commissioning that was
necessary for implementing pumps, controls and other relevant equipment.
Expedition software and P3 scheduling assisted the effective control and reaction to daily construction issues.
